Battle River Power Coop is a Rural Electrification Association that operates under cooperative principles. The Coop provides electrical distribution for farms, rural businesses, industry and recreation/residential development. As an electric utility cooperative, the Coop offers several advantages that are unique to the coop business model.

Our rural Alberta service area stretches from the Town of Bruderheim in the north to the Village of Alix in the south, and east from the Town of Wainwright to the Village of Thorsby in the west, spanning 13 Alberta Municipal Districts and Counties. We have been providing safe, reliable electricity distribution to rural Alberta for 75 years and serve 8700 plus members.

We employ 60 qualified people who contribute to the cost effective, reliable and safe energy delivery through services including power restoration, new construction, vegetation management, loans, electrician services and utility billing.

System Planning & Engineering
GIS Technician

General Summary

  • Identify, modify and sign-off all map changes
  • Monitor Data Management Mapping Distribution System assets in both Trimble and ArcGIS mapping system
  • Maintain mapping database and ensure that the database is up to date and accurate
  • Production of maps for use by internal departments
  • Production of mapping files for external use

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years post secondary education and ESRI ArcGIS system experience
  • Experience with field data collection software systems such as Trimble or ArcGIS Field Maps
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft including Word and Excel
  • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers
  • Must have team experience, developed ability to communicate with members of a team and to be able to easily comprehend and follow instructions
  • Must work and communicate well with others
  • Previous experience in rural power distribution system operations would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD

Hours of Operation

Hours of operation are generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Powerline Technician Apprentice

General Summary

  • This is a four-year program to become a Journeyman Powerline Technician
  • Schooling will be done at NAIT for 7 weeks at a time
  • It is a hands on learning under the direction of a Journeyman Powerline Technician
  • NAIT Requirements - Alberta High School Diploma with English 30-2, Math 30-3, Physics 30-3 or Chemistry 30 or Science 30
  • NAIT Minimum Requirements - successful completion of English 20-2, Math 20-3, Science 10 or Entrance Exam

Qualifications

  • Class 5 Driver's License with air endorsement and/or a Class 3 Driver's License wouldbe an asset with a clean drivers abstract
  • Must have team experience - develop ability to communicate with members of team and to be able to easily comprehend and follow instructions - must work well with others
  • Must be in good health and able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Must be able to work in unfavorable weather conditions
  • Must be comfortable with working at heights
  • Will be required to respond to after-hours emergency situations if needed, assisting the Journeyman on call
  • Adhere to all BRPC safety practices and procedures
  • Ability to learn to read LSD and BRPC mapping system
  • Previous experience would be an asset

Hours of Operation

Hours of operation are generally 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, four days a week..
